What is the point?

6 hour lengthy program……

Cricket ka Muqadama” (Trail of Cricket)!!!!

What exactly were the organisers of this program aiming for? What was the objective of this program?

It seemed like a or few producers of one of the biggest TV channels in Pakistan decided to cash in the defeats of the national cricket team of the country. Like they say, Elephant when dead is costlier than when it is alive.

The demoralised cricket team could not bring any joy for themselves; however the producers of this objectiveless show did manage to bring in sponsorship money for the channel on the expense of the continuous defeats.

A program, which very rightly pointed out by one of their own guests, Rashid Latif, that should have been hosted by someone who had more knowledge and grip on the game (which was the subject). This comment was not taken lightly by they host and the way he tried to defend himself or his position was childish to me.

The program for most of the 6 hours seemed to me like drifting from one point to another with the hosts having either no control on the conversation which was taking place or were contributing in the deviation from the main issues. This generally happens when the hosts are ill-prepared with no clear aim or objective.

The end of the program with a decision by the jury was also quite interesting. The Pakistan Cricket Board should be privatised. Now this is an interesting theory, do we see any other cricket board in the world or for that matter any national sports association privatised or run by businessmen.

Ideally what people would have loved or were expecting was some sort of productive debate instead of just beating around the bush and people reaching on 4-8 points which in principle if acted upon would have brought betterment in the sport.

Another feature of the program was hilarious at times and at times it felt as if the channel was insulting the intelligence of Pakistani audience was the “Janazas” of Pakistani Cricket. It reminded me that during my school days we used to read a story on how a Mughul emperor banned music from the country and the musicians carried “Janazas” of their musical instruments through the streets of Delhi. It was quite obvious that these people who were carrying the so called dead body of Pakistan Cricket were paid to do so and their acting was below par.

Hopefully the channels will learn from this and try to provide more productive programs for their viewers in future.

Pakistan - Passion and Love

Pakistan; ek Ishq - ek Janoon

Pakistan for is not just a country, but it is a phenomenon. A phenomenon which makes us believes that anything is possible, subject to efforts made in right direction and under capable and courageous leadership. It is a phenomenon which makes us believe that we are different from the rest of the world as the rest of the world did not choose where to live in but the people of this country did choose and then to achieve gave in their blood.

Pakistan is name of hope for the minorities and suppressed nations across the world. For the nations who are struggling to achieve independence from other nations and choose to go by the non-violent path, Pakistan is an example, a living truth which proves that goals can be achieved even in today’s world and without war.

Pakistan is a destination of an entire nation, a nation of 16 million people. Pakistan is hope of the Islamic nations across the world, being the only nuclear power and perhaps the only country which may and can stand in front in case of any crisis.

But then how can few, very few people, who call themselves as Taliban think that they can snatch this dream called Pakistan from its rightful owners – the common people. Have they not thought that we Pakistanis are not going to surrender to them without a fight? We are not going to be intimated by bombs, guns and other means of terror.

How can they think that they can scare Pakistanis, us, to change our way of life and to adopt theirs under shadow of their fear. Have they forgotten that this is a nation which did not bow down in front of the British Empire and fought with them till it achieved its goal i.e. Pakistan.

How, why do they think we are going to hand over Pakistan to them, knowing that Pakistan is our love and passion.

So let them hear us today, we are not afraid of them. We are ready to die and are ready to kill to save this beautiful country of ours. They cannot dent our moral nor can force us to change our life style and follow them if we don’t want to do so…..

We are ready to fight, no matter how deadly it may be, no matter how long and pain full it may be, because this is our country.
